NEED TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC THAT CANCER SURVIVAL RATES FOR AYA’S NOT IMPROVING!!!

In a recently  published paper by Dr. Archie Bleyer, the survival trends of individual cancers among AYA's (adolescents and young adults) indicate that survival rates have not significantly improved when compared with children and older adults. Males seem to survive less than females.  Issues could be due to socio-economic factors, being less likely to adhere to treatment recommendations,  engaging in higher risk-taking behavior, and the feeling of invincibility.

It is also believed that  there are biological factors that must be taken into consideration when approaching each individual cancer.

There is a need to educate the public, health care professionals, insurers, and legislators about the special needs of AYA Cancer Population!!

Please read the attach article that was published in Journal of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology. Thank you!
